The Inn is very keen to help those seeking to establish a career at the Bar if it is right for them. The Inn also wishes to assist those who advise students making this important decision.
We are holding Open Days for prospective BPTC and GDL/CPE students for the duration of the development project at Lincoln's Inn in 2017/18.
They will include a presentation about the Inn and a talk from a barrister, or recent student. Individual students are welcome to bring a guest with them, or you can attend as part of group from your institution.
The next Open Days will be held in September/October 2017 and will be aimed at those applying for BPTC scholarships for 2018/19.
You will be able to book your place online nearer the time.
Sponsorship and Funding for Bar and Law Societies
Lincoln's Inn is now accepting applications for sponsorship from student societies. You must complete an application form informing us why you are applying and how you intend to use the funding. We will be offering amounts of up to £250, and student societies should note that they will only be able to apply for sponsorship from the Inn once per academic year.
Applications have now closed - Applications for funding for 2017/18 will open in the summer.
University Information Afternoons and Dinners
Lincoln's Inn offers a series of events between February and April each year for university students who are interested in pursuing a career at the Bar; download the draft programme (pdf). Students are invited to visit the Inn, hear from practising barristers and dine in the Hall. Unfortunately, during the development works at Lincoln's Inn, we are unable to offer as many places at these events as we usually would. Invitations have been sent to universities offering a qualifying law degree.
Those attending these events should note that the dress code is dark coloured suits for gentlemen (not Black Tie). Ladies should dress in a dark suit or appropriate formal dress with shoulders covered. Genuine dark coloured ethnic dress is welcomed.
For further information on these events please contact
Lincoln’s Inn will be visiting universities to give a talk on ‘How to finance and succeed in a career at the Bar’. More information about the Inn's visits will be available soon.
The Bar Council, the Inns of Court and COMBAR will also attend various university law fairs this autumn. If you would like more information about the fairs and other Bar events, please contact
The Inn can arrange for barristers or a member of staff to visit you at your university to talk about the role of the Inns. Please
to discuss your plans.
The Neuberger Prize
Last year Lincoln’s Inn decided to offer some prizes to those about to begin their last year of a qualifying law degree in non-Russell Group universities. Now in the second year of a three year trial, the Neuberger Prize aims to identify students who are of proven excellence and give them the opportunity to integrate with the Inn during the final year of their qualifying law degree. The Inn will select up to 5 winners and they will be given £1000 and free student membership.
Applications for 2017 will open in the summer.
Careers Advisers Events
There is an event once a year for Careers Advisers, which offers an opportunity to hear from and meet those at the Bar. This event is held at each Inn in turn. The event in 2016 was held at Inner Temple.
